  1. Right now she's scared stiff of her new surroundings and of what you might do to her. if she is a puppy, lay her down in soft blankets and hide a ticking object underneath it all, it simulates a heartbeat.

If older and not feral hold her for a bit then lay her down near a more favored person there. If you want her really calm, treat her like an infant, cooing and stroking are highly effective.

  2. Have you searched for a possible owner? Dirty and smelly does not necessarily mean that there isn't an owner. This can occur when a dog gets loose and is out for a few days.

The new surroundings are overwhelming for her. Naturally, she will be a little bit frightened at first. Hand feeding ocassionally stimulates trust. Although if this is done too often, she may get used to the hand feedings and refuse to eat from a bowl, so don't do it frequently. Your best option would probably be to allow her to get used to things on her own, at her own pace. When a new cat is introduced into a home, they usually run and hide for a bit until they are ready to come out. Same with dogs. They just need a little time, and some patience on the part of the owner.

  3. for little <=3mo I like hinding clocks and warm water bottles and puppy sized stuffed animals in their puppy safe sleeping area.
