Just found out i was lied to?

between the age of 3 - 5 i was molested by my next door neighbor along with a couple of other girls. none of said anything for a long time but eventually me and another girl told our mums. everything went so fast from there he was arrested and their was a trial. i was told by my mum that he was sent to prison and he later died there because he was quite old. me and my step dad were talking about the compensation money i received when i was 18 and he made a comment about how he was surprised i received anything because the man never was sent to prison because of lack of evidence. i don't know if i should confront my mum about lieing to me. I'm not angry with her because i know she did what was best at the time because i was so little, but should i let her know i know the truth?

Your mom just wanted you to feel secure by telling you that the person was no longer around rather was rotting in the jail.

Tell her that you know if it makes you feel better.

As a parent we try to make what we think is the best decision to protect our children.  Maybe you can just ask her why she felt she had to tell you that.  Hear her out and try not to be upset, she was just trying to protect you.  Maybe now she will feel she can explain it to you and has been waiting for you to ask.
