I hope no-one else has posted this, and I apologise if they have.

I know most of you are all on for advancing technology and letting the riders/manufacturers get on with it - but how would you feel if the racing rules went this way.

With the single tyre rule - I really cant see anyone wanting to be with Michelin next year. I really though Rossi had made a mistake going to Bridgestone in 08, but they have been amazingly dominant this year.

Also, I would love to see the rider controlling the throttle again and seeing all those powerslides!!

Or would you scrap all of these and sack Espeleta? ;)

  1. i would personally like to see a decrease in rider aids as C.H mentioned it would be nice to see a good old powerslide again.....

    back to the old 500 and 990 cc days


  2. Hi Cheryl H,  I think you know my views. but here is a little reminder. firstly the Single tyre. when you get a rider still winning more than the others. (read Spies / Mladin) everyone shouts unfair. their tyres are better than everyone Else's. just the name on the side is the same. as for the Tech stuff. its been proved already that traction control slows a bike down and is still capable of some scary high-sides (read Lorenzo)

    the Engine Mapping (GPS) is incredible if now mindblowing. that technology can even move that quickly and that accurately just spins my head.  But as Wiggysan points out as much as me. this is a prototype sport. if you want even racing watch the R1 cup. or the Rookies. even these guys produce a winner or someone that stands out.  MOTOGP should be given as much free reign as possible without becoming over dangerous. its all right complaining about corner speeds but i tend to find that when they go too quickly around a corner they don't usually get around it. then we talk about Air fences.  I would guess the main aim of the rider is to get to the finish line. that's enough incentive to slow the sport down.  Back to the tyre thing. where is the incentive to develop a tyre if there is only one choice.

    if the might of Michelin cant keep up with bridgestone. Fine let them pull out. But don't just say you can only use Bridgestone. there are other firms out there.  

  3. at the end of the day tyres are not the thing to look out for its the performance of the bike and set up also the rider involved believe you me the tactics are strange but it works.

With the top riders it is only the tyre choice which determines the winner in most cases,the differing grip rates and compounds in FI etc work out extremely expensive to attain.The gain for road users has reached its usable ceiling even for the most b---s out riders.To bring racing back to just engine power and rider skill ,maybe the one make tyre racing is the answer,but which one?

  8. Jed Slade, you have no idea what you are talking.

    The simple idea of trying to compare MotoGP and F1 runner will never happen.

    Same name down the side in white, but that's it.

    As for the rubber deciding the winner........... Y.C.F.W , how is that riders like Rossi , Stoner and Hopkins etc, choose the exact same compounds week in week out and its a different winner.

    The difference that I can see is, yes the boys at Crash_dot_net do a fantastic job on there website, but like many times in the past, they have jumped to the wrong idea.

    The report link I have just posted via the official dot_com site, does not mention about slowing down the corner speed. Or slowing the bikes down. Or slowing anything down.

    Its all about making the corners safer.

    After Mr Stoner's little tumble, this meeting looks like perfect timing.

    As a fan, when I see the great ex rider and world champs name " Franco Uncini  " mentioned, I know what ever the outcome of meeting like that will positive.

    The last really BIG problem was the lack of " Air-fence's " at certain tracks, not a problem now. Some say, if Suzuka ( HRC ) had pulled their hands out of there pockets, Kato-San would still be alive today.

    Any track gets inspected long before a rider ever turns a wheel, and if people like Franco Uncini  , Rossi , West & Vermulan ( the main riders  who help Dorna make tracks safer. ) and if that team feels that something is missing, the track then funds the hire of more equipment.

    This then begs the question, how on earth did the Indy 500 ( The Brickyard ) ever pass the grade ?

    I have a horrible feeling that at Indy, there will be blood. Hope I'm wrong.  

  9. Did jed slade really say that it is only the tyre choice that decides the winner? I do hope that I read it wrong and he/she did not really write that as it is utter tosh. If it were just down to that then there would be an absolute gaggle of riders (mainly on Bridgestone) who would be topping the podium and that is not the case.

    For my tuppence-worth - I don't want a control tyre but based on principal. Moto GP is supposed to be the prototype, development class and I think that should include tyres. Yes it has gone wrong for Michelin now but there is also a lot of motivation for them to improve, develop and get it right. Put it this way - five or six years ago Michelin were ruling the roost in GP and if you were on Bridgestone then you were a no hoper. Look how having the open tyre choice has motivated them and brought them to where they are now. If there was a control tyre in place then that would have been lost. I don't like it in WSB either but they are production based machines and it is a done deal. There is not a lot of motivation for Pirelli as they have it in the bag. In light of this I would actually like to see more tyres in the Moto GP class with Dunlop coming back in and perhaps Pirelli as well but the regulations changed to make it more attractive for them financially.
