  1. If you mean laid back then I'd say yes....but lax suggests neglect and I don't think we're neglectful. I think it just comes down to kids will be kids and the she'll be right attitude

  2. Australian's have an easy going attitude full stop. What's to stress over, they are only kids. People have been raising them since the beginning of time, animals, fish, bird, all do it too.

We are defiantly easy going, but it's not a bad thing. We are awesome parents.

  3. Lax as in laid back - oh yes

We don't just rely on "research", but what is right for our child

At least our kids have fun

Then again there are some Aussie mums that panic like there's no tomorrow, but I think that's only because it's their first child. It does get easier with more, which is a good thing.

    She'll be right mate

  4. I am an Aussie mum and I would not say I am lax at all.

    I take parenting seriously.

You can't generalise a parenting style based on a Country! At the end of the day, the world may see Aussie's as laid back, but what I have noticed from the answers/questions on YA! is that ultimately all around the world everyone is really the same.... just trying to do their best in life. We are not really all that different at all.

  5. I wonder what answers made you think that? I'm an Aussie mum, and yeah, I guess in some ways I am pretty laidback about parenting, but I think that's more to do with me personally than the fact I'm Aussie :) To me, the reality of parenting is that we pretty much just make it up as we go along and hope for the best lol. I love my son to bits & am always careful to make sure he is safe happy and healthy..but so what if he eats some dirt along the way :D

I still have a deep down fear of anything bad happening to my child, I think all parents have that and I don't know if that ever goes away. Every night when I tuck my baby in I think to myself ' please sleep all night, but please wake up in the morning!'

  6. I think we are just more layed back. That is what we are known for. I think it is good. We don't sweat the little stuff so much

  7. You know I haven't really noticed either way. I don't think it's a bad thing at all. It seems like here in the US there's all kinds. Neglectful, uptight and relaxed although I guess it's like that anywhere you go. It's hard to say on Y!A b/c some people are so harsh with their opinions.

I must say though you Aussie's have the best accent of anyone! I'm jealous!

  8. I know a lot of totally paranoid Aussie Mums. So no, I think there are lax Mum's all over the world, as well as paranoid ones. Depends on the person really.

  9. "GO AUSSIE GOOO"!! Hoi Hoi Hoi

Of course we are, we are layed back, carefree (there is a limit on this one), I reckonm it is a good thing!!!

  10. I wouldnt generalize like you do, if anything, I was under the impression that a lot of American mothers were the lax ones. I've read too many posts not to think so...eg. My baby rolled off the bed what should i do? (get off the d**n pc!!) etc....

I think every country has its lax percentages, not Australia as a whole. Mothers differ and it has nothing to do with where they're situated.

  11. I know exactly what you mean but I think some others have taken "lax" in the wrong context. We're not lax as in lazy and "bad" mums, but I do think that almost all aussies are laid back and a lot "cruisier" than other nations. I personally think it is a good thing coz I am a very easy-going laid back person myself and nothing really bothers me that much - lifes too short to worry about S**t (especially if its other peoples S**t!).

  12. Probably they are but thats just the aussie lifestyle.

Its not good or bad, aussie kids come out just as good as any other people around the world, even better if you ask me.
