My husband and I desperately need some extra income for baby necessities and savings and he is already working a full time & part time job. I was laid off from mortgage and looked into temp positions, but unfortunately we are sharing a car for the time being. I also have tried the work-at-home jobs with no luck. I obtained a job at the local Target, which is walking distance and I start later this week. Although I just started my 5 month, I am a little overweight and can easily hide the pregnancy for now. (Its my 1st and my regular clothes are just now getting snug) I feel bad about knowing I am probably going to quit in November, but if I told them I was pregnant, they wouldn't hire me and being able to financially provide for our baby is the most important thing right now. I have always stayed at my jobs for at least 5 years, so I don't know how to handle this. Should I say anything about being pregnant or should I just quit? Should I confirm if people notice me showing?

  1. you are already hired, so just tell them..

they can't fire you for it, and they will understand why you will need to leave later for the baby.

you also can go on maternity leave (unpaid of course) and then start working there again after the baby so you will have a job.

  2. I don't think they can fire you knowing you are pregnant (It doesn't seem legal), but I am not sure.

However, if you do a decent job at work, you should keep this job. Consider walking to your work as a morning exercise, it is actually good for you. Things will get better. Good luck.

  3. you need to tell them. you got the job, and they by law cannot fire you because of you being pregnant... that is against the law. that's like not hiring someone because of skin color or firing them because of their religious preference. plus you dont want them telling you to do something that might hurt you while pregnant. please tell them.

  4. I think you should wait a week or two so you can learn how to do your job and come more familiar with the managers. After that ask  one the managers if you can have a word to them and tell them your pregnant and explain a little about situation. Not much but just enough for them to know you want and need keep working.

  5. Good luck with the baby stay there work as long as you can . You will not be able to stand once you get into your 7 or 8 months. So enjoy your 10% discount while you can!!!

  6. When i was in college I got jobs in the summers knowing that I would have to leave in 3 months.  Places were more than happy to have me back at Christmas or the following summer.  I worked at Taco Bell, a small bank, and a hospital.  The hospital offered for me to call in anytime I wanted to work for a weekend or few days.  I don't  see why Target couldn't do the same.  You'll work up until delivery, right?  That's 5 more months.  Then maybe come back 1-2 days a week later.  Or not.  Go ahead and tell them you are pregnant.  I believe it's unlawful for them to fire you because of it.
