I got a new hp laptop... It comes with a lithium ion battery.. 6 cell..

I only use it for my desk.. i dont carry it around anywhere etc..

Should i take the battery out and use the AC adapter to supply energy to the laptop?? (I want to maximize my laptop battery life, and so i dont want to use the battery)

IS this possible??

If not... should i leave my ac adapter in the laptop even if the battery is fully charged to maximize battery life?

  1. Lithium batteries are pretty great they don't get overcharged or anything and you don't need to condition them like nickel batteries....so it doesn't matter what you do with it :).......Letting it sit for long periods of time charged will not damage a lithium and they have very little discharge over time unlike nickel which discharges relatively fast.

  3. Maximize battery life by unhooking AC power, running battery until battery is near drained, hooking up AC power to recharge battery. Battery needs continuous "exercise". (Hup two three four".)

  4. My advise is to leave the battery in and leave the ac adaptor plugged in as well.  When you are on AC power the battery will not discharge but taking it out and not using it will cause it to slowly discharge.  This could shorten the life of your battery even faster than if you just leave it in.  The fact of the matter is laptop batteries have crappy life no matter what you do but the LI batteries are about 20 times better than the old NIMH ones were.  I have had mine (Laptop with LI battery) for two years now and I still can go off AC for two hours before recharging.  Hope this helps.

  5. Yes, this is possible.  When you leave the battery in while it is plugged in, the only time it charges is when the laptop battery charge drops below a certain threshold.  I can't say for sure if it will extend the life of the battery, because batteries are made to charge this way, and not charging them might actually shorten the life.

  6. leave the battery in, and run it off ac power. every once in a while, you should unplug it and run it off the battery until it is nearly drained. this keeps the battery strong and the power meter accurate.
