Well I was on the phone on my bluetooth...in the left lane doing 5mph under the speed limit, and i accelerated a little faster than I thought and just cruised down..well it turns out there was an unmarked cop in front of me that pulled me over.

Now I have a NJ ticket which will slam me for 5 points. What do I do, and what can I hope for? Should I hire a traffic lawyer?

  1. Why hire a lawyer?  You admit that you tailgated, you were given a citation for it, and I can't think of a single reason why it would be overturned in court.  If you really want to hire a lawyer feel free, but just remember that you will have to pay the fine for the citation, then pay the lawyer whether you win or lose.....if you were facing anything other than a traffic violation I would say hire a lawyer first thing...

  2. you want to fight a ticket for tailgating a cop,are you high???pay the fine and quit whining.and HANG UP AND PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!

  3. WOW... I hope you use this experience to remember why so many states ban driving while on a cell phone...

There is nothing you can do about it... I'm surprised that Cali doesn't have Cell Phone Laws...

You must have REALLY mouthed off to the cop for him to be that much of an a$$hole to you...

    Sorry... You are S.O.L.

  4. You were on the cell phone while driving so thats one violation and speeding, thats a moving violation. In the state of N.J, there is not much you can do but pay the fine. Was this a cop or a state trooper? If it was a trooper, you can forget about catching a break. All you can do is hope for the best.

  5. You should call and ask the court if going to traffic school will remove those five points, if not then you should call a traffic attorney. (by the way, 5 points is alot)

  6. Keep in mind that using a cellphone even with a bluetooth is pretty distracting. If you have to use it, at least next time leave extra room in front of you to compensate for your reduced reaction time.
