  1. If it has been two years since you had a possibility of HIV exposure, and you aren't testing positive, you're fine. HIV tests are made to be very sensitive - sometimes they pick up natural substances in the body which are cross-reactive (biochemically similar to) with HIV antibodies. For the purposes of treatment and controlling the spread of the virus, it's better to get a false positive than a false negative test result.

An indeterminate result could be caused by two things: a recent infection in which the body is just starting produce detectable levels of antibodies, and the presence of a cross-reactive substance in your blood. Since your last possible exposure was so long ago, IF you had the virus, you would be producing antibodies at a level that would produce a *definite* positive, not an indeterminate result.

This means that you can't donate blood (even the slightest risk is too high in the blood banking industry), but the chances of your indeterminate being the result of a real infection are extremely low.

    Hope this helped.
