  1. I wouldn't join the FAA since they cut the pay.  You can find plenty of other jobs that pay 80,000 plus with no education.

    Come on man, think!

  2. One of my best friends just retired at 50 with 25 years with the Feds. He'd say go with the FAA or DOD. There's a shortage of experienced controllers and you get a jump with 4 years already toward your Gov't retirement. It would be a waste not to use your Navy time toward that. Yes, the FAA is a big, ponderous bureacuracy that has its down side, but 20 years goes by pretty fast and you'll be "set" with a good retirement and plenty of time left to play. Now that I'm 50 w/ no retirement from the very fickle private sector, I'm envious since I'll probably have to keep working until I'm 65. Fortunately my wife has a gov't job, so I know I won't be living on saltines and cheezewhiz after I retire. Good luck!

  3. Stick with the Fed Gov't if you want a decent and early retirement. Put all you can into your TSP.

There is and will be a shortage of ATCs as all  the people that were hired after the huge firing in 1980 are all in that retirement age group.
