I think that i got rid if the windows xp 2008 "antivirus" virus. It really screwed up my computer but after some reading on Yahoo answers i removed it form startup and deleted the two files that it runs on. I changed everything to look like it did. My computer isn't however running the way it was before. My system restore doesnt have any checkpoints from past days. I got the free avg with all the updates and scanned my computer and also scanned it with spyhunter. Still, my firefox and internet connection is not nearly as smooth as it was before. What should i do to fix this?

  1. Spyhunter is NOT a reliable software. It has  been known to give false alerts. I would suggest useing  the free version of this,

    superantispyware

    http://superantispyware.com

  2. The easiest way to fix it is using Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware (Turn off system restore, Download it, update it, do a full scan, and remove everything it finds).

I would also recommend the following programs to make sure that you don't get infected again in the future:

    Spybot - Search & Destroy

    Avira AntiVir Personal

    Spyware Doctor Starter Edition

  3. Ok what you need to do is that the virus has effect your hardrive and temperd with soem files first of all you need to look at teh virus you had and see what files it tempered with also you have more viruses on your pc becouse it will be a fake spyware remover but then allow trogens and roots in.

    XPAntivirus Symptoms

There are many signs that your computer has been infected

XPAntivirus or other spyware infections. Detecting XPAntivirus symptoms on time can help reduce the damage done to your computer. Here are some possible XPAntivirus symptoms that your computer may have. Spyware symptoms may vary, depending on the type of spyware you have.

You see excesssive pop-up advertisements. Some unwanted software such as XPAntivirus can bombard you with pop-up ads while you're on the Web and even when you're not on the Web. If you see pop-up ads that are coming from questionable websites, you may have XPAntivirus or other types of spyware on your computer.

Your Web browser has additional components that you did not recall downloading. Spyware may install Search toolbars or Internet browser toolbars that appear floating on your screen or within your Web browser without your knowledge. If you notice certain icons or tools that you don't remember adding yourself, you may have been infected with XPAntivirus or other types of Spyware.

Your settings have been changed without your knowledge. Some unwanted programs such as XPAntivirus may change your default homepage or search page settings, which means that the default web page you selected or the page that appears when you search may have been switched to a page that you do not recognize. Even if you try to restore your settings, XPAntivirus spyware may switch it back when you reboot your computer.

Your computer is slower than usual. XPAntivirus may use your computer's system resources to execute its malicious tasks. XPAntivirus may use your memory, internet connection and your bandwidth to run itself. A sudden change on the speed of your computer can be a sign of being infected with XPAntivirus or spyware.

If you suspect your computer is infected with XPAntivirus, we highly recommend you download SpyHunter's XPAntivirus scanner to detect XPAntivirus files

What is XPAntivirus? (Run XPAntivirus check with SpyHunter)

XPAntiVirus (also known as XP Anti Virus, XPAnti Virus and XP AntiVirus) is a fake spyware removal tool that is usually downloaded onto your computer by a Trojan (most likely the Zlob Trojan) or under other dubious circumstances. XPAntiVirus is not a legitimate spyware removal tool. XP Antivirus has moved on to be cloned onto other rogue anti-spyware programs like Antivirus 2009, Antivirus 2008, Vista Antivirus 2008, Windows Antivirus 2008 and others.

Once downloaded, XPAntiVirus begins to haunt the user by displaying false security alerts that read:

    "WARNING!!! Quick System Scan Results

    XP antivirus Online Scanner detected

    dangerous spyware on your system!

Detected malicious programs can damage your computer and compromise your privacy. It is strongly recommended to remove them immediately."

XPAntiVirus may also create nine (9) entries in your Windows Registry that convince you that your computer is infected with spyware, which is really XPAntiVirus that is the spyware and not an outside source. These entries are simply created by XPAntiVirus so when it runs its system scan those entries will be considered as threats. The purpose of these tactics is to get you to purchase the full version of XPAntiVirus spyware removal application.

Even though XP AntiVirus's program may seem legit with its uninstall option available on 'Add or Remove' Programs list, its files will still reappear after reboot, launch XPAntiVirus and its "System scan" messages may continue to pop up on your task manager. In addition, XP AntiVirus installs another application named "Windows Security Alert" that displays nonstop popups stating that Windows Security Alert has detected that your antivirus is not working. All these occurrences are scare tactics used by XP AntiVirus to convince you that you need to purchase XP AntiVirus's commercial version for US$49.95. It is strongly recommended to remove XP AntiVirus from your system without any hesitation.

How did I get infected with XPAntivirus?

You're probably asking yourself how did you get infected with XPAntivirus in the first place. The most common reasons for being infected with XPAntivirus, and possibly other types of spyware, is that you're not following good security practices, you don't have a good anti-spyware program and your security settings are too low.

Below are a few of the possible reasons you might have become infected with XPAntivirus.

Reason #1: You downloaded a freeware or shareware program. Spyware is often found hidden in freeware/shareware programs. Find out about a program before you download it.

Reason #2: You installed a peer-to-peer (P2P) or shared network application. Some peer-to-peer file sharing programs may come bundled with XPAntivirus or other forms of spyware as an add-on software.

Reason #3: You visited a questionable website. If you visit the wrong website you can accidentally click on a link that can automatically install unwanted software such as XPAntivirus. Some websites can trick you by displaying a fake security pop-up that may install XPAntivirus or direct you to a purchase page.

Solution: Proceed to download SpyHunter's XPAntivirus scanner. There are many anti-spyware programs on the Web, however, we choose to rely on SpyHunter's XPAntivirus scanner to detect XPAntivirus files and to check for updates on the newest forms of XPAntivirus threats.
