I had surgery on my lower jaw and chin last week, they broke my jaw in 3 places moved it and my chin forward with pins and such. Now my dilemma is that i have heavy duty elastics holding my mouth closed i know it's a common surgery and thing to go through but i am really having trouble eating and making things first off I was sick of Boost and Ensure by the time I had left the hospital haha. Um other than that I am vegetarian and very open to trying almost anything at least once I have been looking up recipes for a few days now and everyones stories say that they just start throwing anything into a blender which i have tried and doesn't seem to work well for me i believe I may have less space then is usually given since I have braces and the heavy elastics close my teeth so tightly i have about a single mm or two space between the teeth in the front and so far have found anything that can stick to my braces, elastics or just not squeeze threw the tiny gap will stay out of my mouth it's almost like a coffee filter haha, I've tried lots of fruit smoothies which I love but by the time I go for a second gulp the space to drink through is all clogged up already any suggestions? Also appreciate something to help keep weight up I had the surgery Wednesday now being Monday I have lost 8 lbs, I was 227 now 218.5 which I am aware is not healthy since I try to be healthy and stay active at a healthy weight and such, but when it's frustrating to even attempt to eat and with a HUGE loss of appetite it's been hard

  2. Wow hang on in there, sounds like your having a rough time.

I'm sorry can't suggest anything amazing but i'll have a go.

How about soup, you could try the really thin.

Ice cream or yogurt could be good, apple sauce or even baby food (its not all gross).

Build up milk shakes, mash potatoes and bannah.

    I hope this helps

  3. Wow...hang in there, I know its hard. When I first got my braces last year I had two metal expanders in my mouth so I could barely open it, and also had elastics, plus it was so painful the metal wires digging into my tongue. I only had enough space for a straw in my mouth, and even then, whatever i tried to eat, I could barely swallow because it hurt so much. i couldn't even fit a spoon in my mouth, I had to tip it up and let the liquid trickle into my mouth.

    Here's what I survived on:

-protein shakes made with soy milk, frozen fruit (the coolness was soothing in my mouth), soy protein, hemp protein and cinnamon, with a little flax oil to get some fats into my diet

-fruit juices shaken up with powdered greens from the health food store ( I needed a way to get some veggies into my body)

-runny yogurt, I'd mix it with water to make it runny enough to swallow

-vegetable soups made with beans to get some protein and fibre and good nutrients, I'd blend the heck out of it in a blender and water it down to make it runny so I could get it into my mouth or drink it, sort of

-liquid vitamins, or powdered multivitamin shaken up with fruit juice

I really hope this helps! I know how hard it is...but you can survive, just do your best! best wishes :)

  4. your doing better than i was after my jaw surgery with the weight loss and such (i had the same surgery as you but also on the top jaw).  as long as you are on painkillers you wont feel hungry and dont worry about weight loss because youll gain it all back in about 2-3 months.  drink tomato soup, whole milk, and ensure and youll be fine.  the numbness sucks tho
