not sure if i should get some crack filler, go over the cracks, get it sealed a 2nd time, or what to do. if i get the crack filler, will it adhere to the sealer? these are singular, crevices about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, and about 1/4 inch wide..

thanks

  1. yes, fill the cracks and another idea to check on is to have the surface glazed.....we did 2 of these on older driveways and took the cracks and made them look like vains in a marble/grante look  and colored the concrete....when completed the driveway look real nice.....

  2. Have some stress-lines put in it.

  3. I would recommend self leveling urethane sealant for concrete/asphalt

You can get them in caulking tubes at your local home improvement store like Menards or Home Depot

  4. Where are you at??  Depending on what area you are in, using crack filler can be a really bad idea.  In areas where the ground freezes and thaws, the shifting will cause that filler to disappear.  Also, never seal your driveway if you get below freezing temps.  Concrete for driveways have extra air entrainment that is added to it to help with freezing/thawing.  If you seal it, it seals those air pockets and you will have major issues.

If you are down south, I'm not familiar with their practices but the crack filler you'd want to look for is something with an epoxy base.  They tend to work the best for staying inside cracks and joints.  Crack fillers don't really stick the edges of the concrete so it shouldn't matter if you have already sealed it or not.  But definately put another sealer over it.  It will keep the crack filler pliable so it can move without cracking up.

If your budget permits, replacing the driveway is your best option. If you ever do replace it, make sure they put down a good aggregate base.......such as gravel or rock.  Also to eliminate excess cracking, keep as much water away from the edges of the driveway. So many times people replace their driveways and then we see the downspout 2 feet away from it. It saturates the ground and when it freezes, it moves the drive causing it to crack.

    Good luck

  5. Build it and they will come. Like in business - location is everything. Even a later patch after crack filler (add sand and gravel) will not solve the problem. In many cases; the area below is not relatively stable. Reinforced concrete with re-bar and caissons would solve the problem; a solid foundation to build upon.
