I am almost positive i will be offered a library teacher position starting sept 3rd. Since this is so last minute, do you think I would be allowed to take my pre-planned trip to costa rica for a week in september unpaid? This trip was expensive and I really can't cancel it.

  1. As long as you told the administrator in your interview, I don't see why not. Just make sure you secure a sub and fill them in on all they need to do while you are away.  You will probably burn up all your sick days (We get 7 at my school), but Costa Rica is probably worth it. Just make sure you turn in the proper paperwork and get it all approved now.

Good luck! I hope you get to go!

  2. September is such a busy time in school. A lot of orientation going on, and many teachers are going to want to see the librarian, make orders, as for their teaching plans. Perhaps you could sell your Costa Rica package and go during the winter break. I've taught 12 years and no teachers I know of would do that, even with years under their belt. Hope it works out for you.

  3. That's really soon after being hired... I'm not sure that's such a great idea... Make sure you notify them after being offered the job...
