My Emerson VCR remote is lost. I do have the DVD remote. The cable company provided a new TV remote but they could not program it to either my VCR or DVD.

Prior to installation of this new cable converter box to my JVC- brand TV (2005), I had no problems watching tapes, or DVDs. Now I cannot do either. The cable TV help line suggested I contact the VCR (Emerson) or DVD (Sony) manufacturers (separate boxes). But can anyone here help me in plain English?

  1. The most likely answer is the installer of the cable box did not leave the VCR connected and just hooked the cable box to the TV in place of the VCR.

The wiring should be as follows where <=> means a coax cable connection.

Cable TV wall connection <=> Input to Cable Box

    (leave alone)

From cable box Output to TV <=> VCR Antenna/Cable Input

VCR Output to TV <=> TV Antenna/Cable In

  2. If it's wired up, you may have the wrong input on the tv. Put a tape in and hit play, then go through the tvs inputs and see if the installer hooked it up to a different input than you had.
