  1. They left their working class socialist roots. They forgot what they believed in x x x

  2. I must be getting old, I find myself agreeing with a couple of your answers!!!!! (or almost agreeing)!

'Lotty Bet...'  has a very good point, but socialism has become a dirty word, not a very good election vote gainer?   Maggie saw to that. The Americans saw to that also.

Labour are trying to run on a watered down version of socialism, but far better than Camerons clowns have to offer.

To my mind 'cero' has it right, the labour party is still the best choice (for us common folk)!

No one can combat the present world economic situation, just imagine the mess we would now be in if Camerons clowns were in charge.

But folk find it easy to blame the labour party.

For what its worth, here is a prediction>>>>>

World economic situation will not be sorted in the next couple of years, it will get worse, in the UK the present goverment will be blamed!

Come the general election the 'clowns' will win.

They will make an unbelievable mess of every thing they do, (as they always have)!

They will soon be ousted by the public, by which time we can get back to 'normal', the British public will remember this event and it will make the cons a laughing stock for years to come.

Some of us remember the last mess they made, but not enough of us to keep them out next time.

                                                          On your heads be it!!!

  3. it all went wrong when John smith died which let phony tony and his new labour mob  steal the labour party

  4. When they forgot why they were elected. Education, education, education! Tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime! The national health service! Read my lips - no tax increases! Blair and Brown lied and lied and lied for the last 11 years and the only people to benefit from having them at Westminster are their families, friends and cronies! Education, Law, and the NHS have almost been destroyed by them and as for taxation - we've never had it so bad!! They will not listen, they think they know best (the nanny state) and every stupid idea for reform has cost us billions in wasted money - our country is all but bankrupt! They're career politicians, not politicians of conviction and don't have any real experience of life other than through a university - this is the real problem - they don't understand business and how it runs efficiently. No one should be allowed to become a politician without 10 years in industry or business of some kind to give them good all round experience and then perhaps a bit of common sense might prevail!

  5. Wow, this is not an easy one to answer. In the early years Labour did a lot of good things. The most noticable was the introdution of the minimum wage, the Tory's along with their chums the CBI were opposed, claiming it would mean many small companies would go out of business and create mass unemployment, neather happened. Edwina Curry (Tory) said old people should spend their pension on food and put on thick clothing to beat the winter cold. Labour brought in the winter fuel allowance, a God send to the elderly. Sadly New Labour became more and more Conservative in their thinking. They failed to repair the damage done to the trade union movement by Margret Thatcher and Norman Tebbet, one should not forget that the Labour Party was born from the Trade Unions. I thought Tony Blair had had his day and that Gordon Brown would make a great Prime Minister, I soon changed my mind when the first thing he did was to invite Margret Thatcher to number ten, a woman who brought this country to its knees by giving away our heavy engineering industry, putting 2.5 million people out of work and taking away any power the unions had. As bad as New Labour are, do we really want to go back to that? Sorry to be so long winded, but reading some of the glib answers you have had from people who clearly don't remember Tory rule makes me mad. LottyBet... gets a thumbs up from me.

  6. when slimeball  T Blair got elected Primed Monster

  7. When they became "New Labour". Tony Blair was a Maggie Thatcher fan hench a conservative party under another name.

John Smith must be turning in his grave!

  8. 1.  When the unions got too militant in the 70's and helped the Thatcher government get in.

    2. When John Smith tragically died too young.

    3.  When Labour in desperation let 'New Labour' hijack their party, without really knowing what that meant.

    4.  When Tony stopped listening and turned into a war mongering megalomaniac

    5. When Gordon repeatedly promised 'no more boom and bust' whilst not noticing or caring that we were in the middle of the biggest 'boom' since the 1920's.

    6.  When the cabinet became filled up with self seeking young and inexperienced professional shysters and scary women who are full of spin.

    7.  When Gordon chickened out of a general election and showed his true chicken colours.

So that's that for another generation then, unless Labour can metamorphose into something else.

  9. The last election we should have realised they were past their sell by date and then another Bloody incompetent Scotsman in charge

  10. When Gordon Brown took over as PM, he is the worsed PM we have ever had,

  11. the labour party ended in up in a mess by lying to the public on the war in iraq which was illegal and unconstitutional, so people are aware now and also the econoy with the credit crunch and norhtern rok saga the government has done nothing to help. thats where they went wrong and prime mninster gordon brownis alame duck politian

  12. It wouldn't matter which government was in power right now, we would still be in the same mess. The economical cycle will turn in due course. If labour are still in power at the time they will win the next election because everyone has a short memory. However, I doubt that will be the case as things move in 7 year cycles, but in 10 years time the Tories may be in the same mess themselves.

  13. It went wrong because new Labour and old Labour are one and the same.

BORROW BORROW BORROW to fund half baked uneconomical ideas - then pay the price later. Same as - same as - Blair jumped ship just as Wilson did -

Labour never learn from their mistakes of the past.

  14. Labour Governments always end with disaster. This one has excelled itself, however. It has proved itself to be both morally and economically bankrupt as well as being a threat to the very country itself.

Their obsession with tax and spending, threatening the social fabric of the country. Feminism and nannying, and the list could go on and on.

One of the biggest lies doing the rounds at the moment, and it is included above, is that New Labour moved nearer to Tory policies. Although it absolutely false, it is very clever to give the impression to the less well educated that a failing New Labour Government is really a Tory Government. Typical of New Labour deviousness. Something they excel at.

  15. They forgot two fundemental things.

    1. Who voted for them.

    2. The ability to listen and action on what they heard.

There is a big difference between hearing and listening, and perhaps they need to think on that.

The Tories did exactly the same things. and no doubt will do it again, that goes for all political parties that are awarded power.

Every thing else comes from the two items, graft, greed, over taxing, over spending, wrong quarter spending, propping up banks (not governments job), allowing rampant profiteering, self aggrandising at the Publics expense et al.

  16. Labour have never got it right, the problem lies in the fact that they have no idea how business works. Labour policies have always worked against British business and industry interests, they are a party based on jealousy, they think they are Robin Hood, in reality? They are more like Red Riding Hood.....

If a party cant run its own affairs, how can anyone expect them to run a country? Labour personal party finances = £18 million debt

Gordy Brown was probably the worst chancellor we have ever had, he is most certainly the worst PM.

  17. It's a matter of opinion, of course.  I come from the poorest part of East-end London, survived Adolf's rockets and always been a Tory Backwoodsman.

When developing political consciousness I found the strike/disruptive/destructive tactics of the socialist centralists abhorent - the politics of envy -v -opportunity open to all.  By rights, I'd be a lower 'working class' staunch Labourite - but I don't like their control freak attitude - or sheer hypocrisy. Who gave them the right to dictate what's best for all of us ?

I reckon it went wrong when Bliar and Clown stole the Emperor's clothes - moved to the right with much malicious accusation of sleaze - only to be found even more guilty of such. It's taken 11 years since 1997 - but I think most have now noticed the stealth, the lies, sheer hypocrisy and incompetence of a disgraceful 'government'.

But I might be a bit biased - given my roots.

Cameron couldn't possibly be more disastrous, surely ?

  18. when Neil Kinnock was replace

    he was an honourable man
