Question:

Just how important is it that one graduates college on-time?

I know I am going to take 5 years to finish my 4 year degree. And since I started out at a community college, it is the norm, as many of the kids do not get their associates until 5 or 6 semesters.

What are the negatives about not finishing college in 4 years? I really would like to go at my own pace (which is the 5 years) but my father and things I read always say "if you want to finish on time, take summer classes to make up for it" etc)

Is it better to be younger when starting out finding a career?

  1. I think that no matter how long it takes you or how old you are, it is better in the long run to take your time and do a good job as opposed to getting it done in a hurry.  I am 27 and just started college this week, for my associates, and I may take longer.  I think any employer would rather hire a more mature person for a position, so no matter how old you are it is all in how you act at a interview as to if you get the job or not.  It is just good that you are doing it.  Don't rush through it.  Learn it.

  2. Short answer - you want to finish college as soon as possible.

    Reasons:

-More time in the world you can make money

-Often friends will finish before you and you will be left behind

-And another year of college is another year of all the expenses

There is no real solid reason why you HAVE to finish in 4 and not 5 years. It is just usually social or money reasons why it is better to get out and make a living as soon as possible.
