  1. Whether Palin was a good pick or not is not exactly relevant.  What is relevant is the nature of John McCain’s decision making in this instance.

    Let that simmer with you for a moment.  At the first sign of trouble, McCain abandoned his game plan and went instead with a high risk maneuver that thus far seems to have some pay off, but is coming with a high cost.

    What does that say about how he’ll behave in the realm of foreign policy?  Will he abandon any semblance of a safe and tested plan in favor of a high risk move that will put us and our families in danger?  What about terrorism?  In a McCain administration, I think that this indicates that instead of pursuing a smart and tough anti-terrorism policy, he would engage in a reckless and reactionary response that would only make us less safe and likely put us in another war.

    We can discuss the lack of qualifications for Sarah Palin, and there are plenty, but the biggest problem is that it indicates that John McCain’s temperament and judgment is far below the standards necessary to serve in the Oval Office.

  2. I admit, I wanted him to pick Romney as his running mate; but after researching Sarah Palin, I'm a lot more excited about this choice than I thought I'd be.  Anyone, Democrat or Republican, who thinks that Governor Palin was chosen "simply" because she's a woman deserves to have their butts handed to them, as Senator Biden will in the VP debate.

    Gov. Palin has a history of attacking establishment figures head-on, and defeating them. The best place outside of D.C. in which to do this is Alaska, where politics have become more calcified than almost anywhere else in the country. Her political resume includes sweeping out both a mayor and a governor in serious reform bids each time. If John McCain's only message this year was "reform in Washington", then Palin would be the perfect running mate.

    As far as shoring up his evangelical base, as many have noted that McCain needs to do, Palin is also an excellent choice. She's a credible pro-life and pro-family feminist, who was given the choice to terminate her last pregnancy when it was discovered that her son would be born with Down Syndrome. Although 9/10's of women elect to have an abortion in those cases, Palin kept her child, which has been an inspiration to women and families across the country.

    As far as her symbolic appeal goes, she represents far more than just women in the GOP. She, as well as Governor Jindal of Louisiana and even Governor Pawlenty of Minnesota, represents a new breed of Republican in this country. They are the next generation, free of any taint from Washington and especially President Bush. They remind us that "the future" doesn't just belong to the Democrats, but to all Americans.

  3. First of all,Condi Rice is not interested and has said so a gazillion times.  I am fired up over Palin.  She has executive experience and is a real fighter.

  4. Your question makes no sense.  How is ANY VP selection a "patriotic" one?  How is it somhow patriotic to select Biden?

  5. He did not pick her for america he pick her for him. He wants to be Pres very bad.

  6. Ronney = Ticket too rich

    Rice=Ticket Bushy

    Palin = Too much pandering

  7. Patriotism is about becoming an involve citizen and that is what she did.

  8. It looks like McCain will risk putting a war into the hands of a cheerleader to win an election.

  9. Well Romney and Rice both suck as people and politicians.  Obviously this race is about making history, either the first black president or the first female vice president.  Besides Palin has a pretty good record for getting things done.

  10. Oh please...

    If McCain chose Rice, he would have been accused of copying Bush's administration.

    If McCain chose Romney, he would been criticized for all of Romney's scandals.

    If he chose Lieberman, he would have been accused of continuing the "old man's club."

    No matter his choice, you liberals would find something to boo-hoo and whine about.

    Palin has fought against the status quo and corruption, just what Washington needs.

    You don' t like Palin because she will appeal to the voters that Obama is having a hard time courting.

  11. Or rather, it is a Republican reaction to a fantastic Democratic Convention, which involved great speeches from women.  The Republicans are being reactive, instead of proactive.  They are starting to get weak.  This selection by McCain will backfire on him, big time.

  12. It's political correctness and pandering, pure and simply.

  13. Of course it's political, that's why it's called 'politics.'

    You see, the whole idea is to try to please as many people as possible. That's how you win.

    ..and McCain just won it all by picking Sarah Palin.

  14. He couldn't choose Rice, because then people like you would say things like, "She worked for Bush, so she's exactly like him in every way!"

  15. The pick was rather irrational. Mccain just lost his best argument (experience) by picking some first term governor of Alaska who was mayor of some small town before that. Even she (Palin) thought it was a joke. Patriotic to pick a woman??
