Just installed a new HD but windows doesnt see it ?

Hello,

ive just added a new HDD onto my system .. its a 1TB seagate barrcuda 7200

when i click my computer under hard drives it doesnt show .

ive loaded bios and it see's it in there no problem .. also used auto detect and sees it again no problem.

when i plug my other HDD onto the same sata cable with same psu it sees it fine .

also in device manager it shows a device in there also .. ive also deleated this device and rebooted and still doesnt see it and yet sticks it back into the device manager files

im useing XP pro

anyhellp most welcome .. ive been told a hammert fixes 95% of all PC problems ... hmm now were did i put that !

  1. on the hard drive the jumper might be set on slave or computer solect


  2. start menu > r/click computer > manage > disk managment > right click it > format.

  3. did you partition and format your hardrive

  4. Does it say on the box of the HDD that it is XP compatible? Try getting updates for your computer and if possible the hard drive itself. Sometimes outdated OS's like XP cannot detect that much space or newer drives. If all else fails make sure you have all the service packs installed. I suggest reformatting and starting from scratch.
