Just keeping sindur (Kumkum) on forehead amount to marriage?

I have a friend who had been to temple with his girl friend and in the temple in front of god he kept Sindur(Kumkum) on the forehead of his girlfriend and both of them had even distributed prasadam at temple as couples. Now, these two have been separated by the girls parents saying that she is not married and has been put in house arrest. I would like to know if this point would anyway help him in getting this girl out of the house. Please treat this as urgent and help him in getting a solution. Both of them truly love each other a lot, so please advice the next course of action.

  1. emotionally it is...but leagally i dont think so...there shd be a wriiten statemant for marriage:(

    hope everything end well

  2. No,I do not think putting sindur on the forehead amounts to a legal marriage.Even if one marries in a temple,i.e, the Arya Samaj way, there are rules and procedures to be followed, witnesses to be brought etc.If they really want to marry, they must have a court marriage in the proper way, giving notice well in advance that they want to marry and then being present there at the court when they are called.Only that can be legal.

  3. Nothing can ever claim a marriage, Neither a court document or a sindur. Marriages are when two minds accept each others.

Assess the situation if they feel the can be together by straight means or the other way round. Let them go for it. Or else.. its wise to just move out. Laws are very harsh for the guy if the girls parents get him into legal complications. I know my friend who was thrashed by the police in a similar case. Let their be a happy ending and a mutual understanding.

I myself too is married to a girl in a similar fashion and the girls is happily married elsewhere now. I suffer the burns of those memories but time healed it for the girl.

  4. If both these are in adult age I don'tot think you should turn back. True love is hard to find and you may never know what the future be. Try to convince her parents through the guy's parents or friends. If I were you wouldn'tnt let her go. If you know what you are doing just go for it. if you are too young to marry just wait with good faith. Parents cant marry her by force. she needs to agree. She doesnt have to agree if she doesnt like. I am sure your true love will be blessed.

    all the best!

  5. All you guys are grownup adults of marriageable age & you behave as small kids as if you will be sentenced to some sort of serious punishment if you openly marry in a proper marriage ceremony (the best by court marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954). What all this putting Sindoor on the forehead & declaring both as married couple, then seeking the legal sanction for such performance as legal marriage, which is not at all. If the putting of Sindoor on the forehead only becomes the marriage ceremony for Hindus in India then whole of Indian Cinema world actors must be married to each other hundred of times but this is not so. Even for proper Hindu Marriage proper ceremonies as according to customary rites & ceremonies of the either parties to marriage is required. Read this section 7 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955:- Ceremonies for a Hindu marriage.-(1) A Hindu marriage may be solemnized in accordance with the customary rites and ceremonies of either party thereto.

    (2) Where such rites and ceremonies include the saptapadi (that is, the taking of seven steps by the bridegroom and the bride jointly before the sacred fire), the marriage becomes complete and binding when the seventh step is taken.

In the given case this fellow just did a filmy marriage by putting Sindoor on her forehead, distributed Parsada amongst the gathering in the Hindu Temple & now he claims her as his wife. He should only challenge her illegal house arrest as a friend not as her husband, otherwise the very first thing the Police or the court will ask him will be the proof of his marriage with her which he doesn't have as there is no marriage at all, if he tells all his story which you mentioned here then the court will throw his pleading out of the courtroom, whereas the police officer will take him custody to be produced before the local magistrate for sending him to the local mental hospital for his mental condition, investigation & treatment. Arye yaar if they love each other then let them marry properly as I have been telling the whole world openly here in Yahoo answers but the younger generation which otherwise consider themselves very intelligent are just sentimental fools.

  6. No one can confine  a person in house. Call Police

  7. This looks just childish.Just keeping sindur on forhear does not mean to marriage. In Hindu`s its saat phere, Which is compulsory, sindur is a tiny part of mariage.
