I blasted the water and hung on to the rope too long! I ended up in the emergency room tonight. They did x-ray, but said to go to an orthopedic Dr. My question is: Is this a common injury for wake boarding? I am too sad if I can't go the rest of this summer....

  1. If and when you can go back out, focus on technique of holding the handle as close to your hips as possible. If you hold the handle shoulder high and with arms extended, you are going to tend to be pulled over easier and you are using too much energy fighting the pull of the boat.

  2. I'd say it depends on how bad a tear you might have.  If and when you can go back out, focus on technique of holding the handle as close to your hips as possible.  If you hold the handle shoulder high and with arms extended, you are going to tend to be pulled over easier and you are using too much energy fighting the pull of the boat.  Holding the handle down near your hips and in, the boat does most of the work.  Not sure where you reside, but our riding season is year round here, so take what time you need to recover, build up the strength of your shoulder(s) by swimming and riding holding the handle low and into your hips.  Your session time will increase dramatically as will your arm strength.

  3. unfortunetly they are common if you are not in shape. wakeboarding puts alot of stress on you leg and arm joints. to keep this from happening in the future, start working out and building muscle in your legs and arms, and always stretch before riding
