  1. I wouldn't necessarily say its unfair...Thats like saying better teams shouldn't compete against worse ones, if they didn't there wouldn't be any games or comps. Its like saying the Yankes shouldn't play the Red Sox because the Yankees are pros and the Red Sox are beginners :). Take the opportunity to learn as much as you can from them if you do, they'd probably be stoked to help you out.

  2. It happens often when teams from outside Huntington Beach compete against the HB teams.  It doesn't matter if your team is made up of beginners or not.  You will all get to compete and have fun, plus you will get to meet new friends and probably learn something that will help your own abilities.  Just take advantage of the opportunity.

  3. Is it a school team?  If so, there's no problem with having a sponsored surfer on the team if they actually go to that school.  Otherwise it's like bringing in a college player for your school soccer team.  As far as a pro?  I guess that depends upon the rules of the sports authority.  In some ways sponsored riders are sort of pro, they are getting some sort of compensation for surfing.

  4. Watch the waves they take off on and what they do. It could be a learning experience. I don't think it's unfair, use it as an incentive for you to want to improve your surfing.

My high schools surf team has contests against the San Clemente surf team. Of coarse they're going to be better. They live next to some of the greatest surf spots in Southern California. Even though it's kind of a downer knowing we probably won't win that contest it's tons of fun watching them.

  5. No I don't think it's unfair, if its an open competition and anyone is allowed to enter. Some good young surfers enter comps like that for the experience of surfing in comps. If they are the same age as everyone else and better surfers it just means they have been trying harder and surf a lot to get to that level.

Are the good surfers on your team or another team? (if they are on your team, stoked!)

There are usually different levels in most comps. Good surfers up against other good surfers and so on. A good surfer won't want to surf against someone learning or just barely able, it won't push them enough. A good surfer gets better by surfing against surfers with the same ability.

Just have fun in any case. Watch the good surfers surf.

  6. i don't think a pro surfer will go and waste his/her time with a bunch of beginners. nor would most sponsored surfers. but if one does come to your comps than just have fun, if your all intermediate or beginner winning shouldn't be of high priority to you yet any way.

  7. In principle, it would be as unfair as the Boston Patriots playing your football team. However, if done as an "exhibition" contest, perhaps as a fund raiser, where winning counted more in fun than anything else, it would be cool.
