  1. ditto david...my grandmother had a tree in her yard.  Fruit was sour and not good, jelly was great.

  2. NOPE And Don't wanna!!!!!

Can get it at a grocery store I reckon!!!

  3. Yes. In the UK they are normally made into quince jelly which is then used with meat dishes.

Bought from a Turkish store, by Turkish friends, I was presented with quarters of quince which you sprinkle with salt and lemon juice. Definitely an acquired taste.

You can grow quince wherever you can grow apples, so if you don't have a Turkish store near you, ask at your nearest farmer's market.

  4. yep had them and i actually like the slightly tangy taste. When its a good, ripe organic quince its lovely. The texture is a bit between an apple and a firm pear. The jelly is great too. You can buy them online.

  5. I've had quince jelly. The thing is that quince ought to be combined with apple to make a nice jelly. Likewise rhubarb and guavas should be combined with apples to make a successful jelly. My sister makes it because her neighbour has a quince tree.

And like rhubarb, it's very tart if not well sugared. However my favourite out of guava, rhubarb and quince jelly is guava. Homemade guava-and-apple jelly spread on toast for breakfastt. Mm mmm...

  6. no sorry

  7. Yes!

Tastes horrible fresh (they grow like apples). But the Jelly is really great.

  8. Best used as juice or jelly.  Had it as a kid.  My grandparents used to grow it.  Horribly tart when tasted raw.  A second in the mouth and quickly ejected.

  9. i have a quince tree in my back yard, but i never ate any of them. older folks say they are good for making jelly. i heard they are very sour.the tree in my yard is allways loaded full of quinces in the fall. they make a loud noise when they  hit the roof of my lawn mower shed. i have to be careful that one dosen't hit me in the head, that would hurt.sometimes i let my neighbor or family members take some of the quinces sense i don't eat them. they know how to make jelly out of them.
