Are the stirrups adjustable or do you get the size that fits ?

Probably an incredibly dumb question but humouor me - I'm English and have never even seen a "real" western saddle.

  1. they are adjustable, but you'd better have them right before you get on, because getting at them to re-adjust is not easy!

  2. generally easy to adjust....But having said that you get the saddle...well it could be adjusted with a lot of swearing and patience,so "I am the only one who rides in it" type too.

  3. Adjustable under the saddle

  4. You can adjust them...I have only done Western once and just learned how to do it...i jump! Don't feel bad!

  5. They are adjustable, but the increments are usually very different from English leathers. Western stirrups adjust by a metal piece that goes into the hole, and then there is a metal clasp that slides down over it to keep it in. In most the western saddles I have ridden in, the holes are 2-3 inches apart  beneath the fender, as opposed to the half inch or 1 inch holes in English stirrup leathers.

  6. Yes the stirrups are adjustable. They are a little bit harder to adjust than english saddles tho! ;) To adjust them you have to lift up the fendor and slide up the holder thingy and match the punch with the holes, then slide the holder thingy back down into place. Don't worry about asking this question, you don't sound dumb, you just wanna know =D

  7. Yup!  You can adjust them.

Don't worry about asking dumb questions!  You answer enough dumb ones, with style!

  8. I'm with you, I prefer an english saddle too because then you are riding the horse itself, not just a huge clunky saddle. The western stirrups are adjustable, you just lift up the flaps and viola! there's a buckle for adjustment.

  9. LOLOL........yes, adjustable....too cute

  10. the straps can be adjusted under the saddle .. if you are talking about the actual stir up it self you can by different sizes of those as well

  11. Not a dumb question Deb...when would you see one unless someone had one shipped to you from here?

Stirrups can be purchased in different widths and shapes and the length of your stirrup leather is adjustable.

  12. Yes, they are adjustable!

It's underneath the fender, which is sort of a cross between the flap and the stirrup leather on an English saddle. Some western saddles have two 'prongs' on a buckle that you slide up and put the prongs in the holes and there you go, but most have the "quick change" type. I don't know who came up with that name, but it's ridiculous! They're anything but quick. And the older they get, the worse they stick!

The saddles are comfortable though, I'll give 'em that, and some are beautifully hand tooled with designs of flowers, oak leaves, basket weave, etc.

Not a dumb question at all... I know NOTHING about Australian saddles, so there! :)

  13. adjustable ahah one size fits all unless your REALLY tall like 7 feet then you might have a problem.very humorous but dont worry im completely CLUELESS about english i dont know any english words exept trot and canter (: and dressage. so you think you sound stupid. try going to look at an english horse (:

  14. Yup! They are adjustable!!! Haha!!! Don't worry! I'm not much of an english person!!! I mean, I've never ridden it. But I have seen, and tacked this one little girls pony up before.I was sooo confused on how to tack it!!!

  15. its not that dumb of a question

    but they are adjustable .

if you pull up the stirrups you'll find a buckle .

that you can adjust to your leg length .

  16. i ride english too! i like western saddles better. and when your really good you get to wear a fancy outfit. you get a colorful western bit. and the saddles look pretty much the same as english but with a horn. i rode western too

  17. Under the fender of the saddle there is a strap like a stirrup strap on your English saddle.

They have a buckle in them that you can adjust the length of the stirrup.

The size of the stirrup is not. The come in several shapes for different events but most are pretty standard sized. Bigger than your foot for sure.

I ride in a 4" English stirrup and all the western saddles I have ever been in have a stirrup that my foot gets lost in. I could get my whole foot through most of them.

  18. Yes, they are adjustable.

The good ones usually have a metal "Blevins Buckle" on each stirrup that you slide up and down and lock in two holes depending on the length of the stirrups.

The crappy ones have little buckles and cheap leather.. avoid those! Billy Cook makes a great western saddle.

  19. Yes they are... Hehe

This isn't a dumb question in comparison to some of the ones we get on here....

  20. I PUT IT DOWN AS INTERESTING BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO KNOW THAT TO! =]
