just purchased a chinese algae eatter (C.A.E.), and a mystery snail. Right now i've got 2 10 gallon filtered/heated tanks and a 3 gallon none filtered/heated betta tank. My one 10 gallon holds 4 platy, 1 ghost shrimp, and 2 dwarf frogs, along with a sucker thats only 1.5 inches max length. My other 10 gallon holds 8 platy fry (.5 -1 month old). An a male betta in my 3 gallon. I was gonna put the mystery snail in with my fry (is that a good idea?) And not sure how the C.A.E. would get along with the rest of the fish in my 2nd 10 gallon, or would be good to put him in with the betta, or fry? Not sure where to put him. Also how agressive is he? Should I put the smaller algae eatter in with the fry, are the 2 algae eatters too much for the 1 tank?

  1. ....the snail and fry, not a problem (once you are sure it is disease free)

...the CAE is an assertive and curious scavenger

....the CAE would fair well in the other 10 gal tank with the Platies, Shrimp, Sucker and Frogs

....likely the CAE also will do fine with the Betta

...that's where I would let the CAE start

....the CAE spends time on bottom, and Betta dwells aloft

....add some java moss floating in the tank top, that provides a barrier of privacy and sense of security for the Betta...also plant some java moss in bottom for the CAE to muse

...however, if the CAE begins nibbling on the Betta's fins, the CAE has to go in with the frogs, sucker, shrimp and platties

....otherwise return the CAE to the store ASAP and trade for equal value in live plants, to add to every one of the three tanks

...it is just that CAEs are very assertive and do really well in active assertive community tanks, but not too well in peaceful communities...they tend to get themselves in trouble nipping and nibbling on smaller fish or slower peaceful fish
