Question:

Just ran a Marathon, but Chip Timer did not work, what now?

Just ran my first Marathon at the San Diego Rock n' Roll Marathon. When I finally finished the race, I found out my Timing Chip did not read at all (I did not have it placed anywhere odd, it was on my shoe laces). Does anyone know if they'll still be able to give me some official time, and a Finisher's Certificate? I hope they don't make me run the darn thing over again... : )

  1. Hey I was there too! Congrats on completing your first!

They can't give you an EXACT official time, other than the one you saw when you crossed the finish line; and unfortunately you won't be able to qualify for a finishers certificate...

All marathons that use the CC are very strict about this.

Basically CC timing is proof for them that you've ran the entire course- so not having it is... majorly bad (even though you ran the race).

But still, you've did it- you have the experience that you trained and finished this race- which doesn't need to be justified by some certificate. In any case, you'll be even more faster next year!

    See ya than!

  2. See if there may have been a photo taken of you crossing the actual finish line with the timing clock shown above you? This may be sufficient to warrant getting an offical finishing cerificate, but, no doubt, no evidence that you actually did run the entire 26.2 mile distance. I think that the photo company may be listed on the SD Rock & Roll website now. Good Luck and congrats.
