  1. Henry's plan, however, was to get his marriage to Katherine annulled due to her have been married to his brother.  His marriage to her, therefore was incestuous he claimed.  Having the marriage annulled would make any children of issue from that marriage illegitimate.  Later, he did have a son, Edward, with Jane Seymour.  Near the end of his life, he made the Law of Succession: Edward, then Mary, then Elizabeth.

  2. She became Queen Mary 1st

After Henry 8th died, his son (born to 3rd wife Jane Seymour) reigned from 1547-1553, then Lady Jane Grey was proclaimed Queen...after 9 days she was deposed by Mary (daughter of Henry and Catherine of Aragon). Mary reigned as Queen from 1553-1558, then Elizabeth 1st from 1558-1603.

  3. Yes, Princess Mary did become Queen of England before Elizabeth I (since the death of Anne Boleyn, she was stripped from her title as "Princess" and was only addressed as "Lady Elizabeth." Mary I of England was Queen from 19 July 1553 until her death on 17 November 1558 from stomach cancer. Since she died without issue when she was married to Prince Philip of Spain, her successor was her half Protestant sister.

Note: As with the English succession law, heirs comes before heiresses, therefore, Henry VIII did have a son, Prince Edward through Jane Seymour, who was crowned King Edward VI, however, he died of tuberculosis without issue. Therefore, the crown eventually went to his half Catholic sister, Princess Mary, followed by his half Protestant sister Elizabeth. Lady Jane Gray was Queen for 9 days before she was executed after Edward VI and before Mary I but that's another historical story all together.
