Question:

Just say someone designed an experiment that proved without a doubt that there was no such thing as a ghost?

Kind of like the Randi challenge but in reverse.

A proper verifiable repeatable experiment conducted by respected scientists which 100% proved the existance of ghosts was impossible.

Would you accept the results of the test - or continue with your own beliefs.

BTW - I realise it is impossible to test for something to not exist - so it is a theoretical question only.

  1. Too bad they didn't do the opposite.  I know of this one person (his name escapes me) that has a standing offer of a million dollars to prove that ghost are real.

No one is ever going to collect that, though.  Believing in ghost, the after life, whatever is not something you can just convince someone its real.  Doesn't matter what you collect, what you show them, what experience they live through.  If they don't want to believe, they aren't going to.

  2. Theoretically it would not make a difference.Believing in ghosts is an act of faith.Open-minded people realize there's no such thing as ghosts. We also know superstition has always had a hold on some people. That's not going to change anytime soon.

  3. >BTW - I realise it is impossible to test for something to not exist

Exactly, so although you may have aked the question in good faith, it makes no sense.

Instead, if you are honest, you have to examine any evidence for existence.

  4. Then I suppose that people like me who have seen ghosts would be deemed "crazy..."  - Now there's a "scary" thought....lol

  5. Since scientist (and anyone with any education or training in science) are the first to both admit and educate the public that science does not prove anything but only provides support for or fails to provide support for  a hypothesis I would question anyone claiming to be a scientist that would claim his/her experiment proved anything.

That said if anyone could provide evidence for the non existence of anything (the greatest revolution in the history of science) including ghost I would be greatly impressed and carefully consider all the factors of this world changing experiment.

  6. Truly, the only thing I would doubt is that a machine like that could ever prove me wrong....

  7. Tricky b/c I have had my only paranormal experience less than a year ago. I know what I experienced and know it was real. But if I had tangible evidence that ghosts do not exist and are impossible then of course there would be my answer. They do not exist. I can except the possibility that I may be wrong.

  8. I think the only way they could prove this is to come up with some satisfactory answer for what's been happening to millions of people for centuries...and longer.  If they  did that...I'd accept it.For example..since I learned about astral travel..I realize now that some of the things that happened to me weren't ghosts..they were people astral traveling. (and I know who it was)But there are other times that can't be explained as astral travel.

  9. You're right, it is impossible to test for impossibilities. So they would have to test for the existence of ghosts.

  10. This is an interesting thought exercise, but pretending the impossible isn't impossible is basically nothing more than mental masturbation.
