Just bought a new TV. Set up a digital cable box (Scientifc Atlanta through Comcast) and DVD recorder (Magnavox) to work so I can record analog channels (no cable box required) while watching the digital channels (HBO, On Demand, etc.). The cable box has the normal RF hook ups as well as two sets of outputs (AV and S-video). DVD recorder has multiple input/output.

My current setup is a follows: cable from wall into splitter; one to cable box, the other to the DVD recorder. I have the cable box connected to the TV via RF and to the DVD recorder via S-video (with audio). The DVD recorder connects to TV via component cables.

DVD recorder works fine.

For some reason, when viewing the TV through the cable box (DVD recorder is off), I get no picture BUT I can see the information on the channel if I hit the "INFO" button on the cable remote. The TV is getting a signal from the cable box but not the picture. Is there something that I am missing? Yes the TV is on channel 3.

  1. Change the input source on the tv, as this is how you are using the cable box.  If you use the secondary output from the cable box, you will have a much better picture quality, and your tv being new should have the connections for teh secondary output of the cable box.
