  1. I'm confused by your post.

Did you just surrender your rights to your child again? 18 years later?

Did you sign a consent to release your identifying information through the agency w/ new name? So if your son comes looking they'll give him the info?

Or are they denying you help in finding your son?

  2. i signed something like that for siblings.  i was told that all they do is put it in the child's file and if the child requests information on their birth family, the papers will be in there for them to see and be able to contact you. it's basically just a waiting game after that.

  3. Hi Red-haired Gypsy,

I hope you are able to reconnect with your son soon.  Do you mean you signed consent for the agency to release your information to your son in the event that he asks them for it?  If so, that is a good first step.

Please continue to do other things as well.  Keep in mind that regardless of what agencies might tell you, they really are not in the business of search & reunion, so you should not rely on them as your only method of locating your son.  You cannot be certain your information will ever be exchanged with the person you are searching for even if they, too, signed release forms!  I know because it happened to me.  Many agencies simply have another agenda they do not advertise.

I would recommend registering with International Soundex Reunion Registry if you have not done so yet.  It's free, and it's a worldwide well-known registry whose only purpose is to reunite relatives lost through adoption.  I used them and they work.  They do require that the parties each be at least 18 years old.  They will keep your information on file until a match is made.

If you meant you signed something else, please edit your details so we can edit our advice for you.  Good luck.
