I'm going to a horse camp this summer and I don't know that much about riding, though I know a bit about horses. I haven't been on a horse in a couple of years.

  5. Mostly stay calm. Keep your heels down, legs back, back straight, and keep your hands tightly wrapped around the reins.

  6. You should be fine and have an excellent time as long as the camp puts safety first.  I never got to go to horse camp as a child, so I went for ten years as an adult to Vershire Riding School in Vershire, VT. The horses were the safest and most honest I've ever ridden and the one time I didn't feel comfortable on the horse I was assigned (actually, it was a pony) they switched me immediately.  They had small groups and it was very individualized as far as skill levels.  I had been riding consistently as an adult and child when I went (I haven't been there in a few years) but there were some people with NO experience and they were jumping at the end of the week.  This camp assigned each camper it's own horse who the camper was responsible for taking care of and there 4 hours of mounted lessons a day (2 flat and 2 jumping (cross-country and stadium).  Those summer weeks at camp are some of my best memories.  Don't worry and you're going to have a great time.
