I would really like some suggestions on how to get my balance in an exercise saddle... My new boss let me take one home to put on my horses to get a little feel of it before i actually put it on his Thoroughbreds. I have galloped them in a western saddle and now I just need tips. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!! I realized that I've got a lot to improve on before I start in the exercise saddle LOL!

  1. Its nothing like galloping on the track

I really think you need to learn more Your horse at home will not

    help you

You need to get on the back of races horse's

Best bet for you is Go to a farm and learn there  or start taking lessons from a English trainer

then go to a farm !!

    OR A SCHOOL

Good luck hon, But it is  allot tougher then you think "

And you better be real FIT ,,

  2. Yikes! You are going to exercise thoroughbred race horses and you are asking how to get your balance in an exercise saddle? If you don't know that then I've got some good advice for you missy. Give it up! The exercise saddle just as the racing saddle all your weight should be balanced on your feet in the stirrups and whether exercise workouts or racing you should be off that saddle and hunched over the horse's shoulders. The first thing you will notice when setting on that saddle is that it is extremely thin and lightweight, as is the racing saddle, and you can feel the horse's back and you should only be on that saddle when the horse is walked or standing. The exercise saddle just as the racing saddle is barely more than a platform for the stirrups and your weight should be balanced on your feet in the stirrups.

  3. just keep practicing, until you get real good...

  4. If I only had one tip, it would be to start in the exercise saddle with your stirrup irons as long as they are when you ride western, and gradually make them shorter as needed. You may never need to make them very short until you ride race fit horses that will pull you and you'll need leverage to hold them back. You will ride with your feet farther out in front than you are used to, and need to strengthen your back and core muscles to hold yourself in a good position while keeping your bum with light or no contact on the horses' backs and not let yourself lean back on the reins for stability.

You can also have your hands rest somewhat on his neck, but don't let yourself lean forward too much either. Pilates or other core strengthening workouts would really help. I made a similar transition from regular English/hunter type riding to galloping years ago. It was hard but I'd love to be in an exercise saddle again, with my feet "over the dashboard." :-)  Like any new variation on a sport, you can get the hang of it. Your back might hurt for awhile though.

  5. This is something that takes time I started out in a exercise sattle and hate western saddles. I am too big to exercise now but this is womething that takes time good luck

  6. better to leave to experts , we dont use west saddles ..

    Thank you
