I'm a freshman commuter in college... I feel so lost and confused. I started crying because I miss high school- I miss my friends. They all went away and I feel like I have no friends right now... and I feel like I can't make friends. I feel so lonely and stressed out. I've tried approaching people but it just doesn't seem like I'll make friends...

  1. Try joining a club or work out at the school gym. Also, join study groups in your classes. That way you'll get to know the people you sit next to all day.

  2. Oh gosh honey....never miss high school.  Even though you had friends in high school and now you are all alone, that is part of growing up and becoming an adult.

I was actually happy to leave everyone where I went to high school and start out with new friends, new scenes, new adventures and new possibilities.  This is the most exciting time in your life thus far.

Make the most of it.  Be the one that talks to everyone....even if it is to tell them you love those kinds of pens....if someone next to is writing with a pen.  Be the one that asks all the questions.  Be the one who randomly says things that are relevant to the conversation in class, but is funny to make people laugh.  Be the one in class that everyone wants to talk to after class.

I didn't join anything my freshmen year, but thereafter I have joined quite a bit of clubs, honor societies and cliques.  However, if you want to be in a situation where you HAVE to make friends with people around you, join greek life or join a club that interest you.

Also, your professors will become some of your best friends you will have for life.  Some of my past professors are now my best friends.  And then what's really cool is taking them later in college....and they are your best friend!

  3. It's a new chapter to your life! It's time to move on.

It should be exciting making new friends and experiencing new things!

So good luck and just think positive about it :D

  4. You'll be okay. Don't be too sad. This is just one glitch in your life that you'll overcome. Soon you'll be making new friends and having fun. Just don't get too wrapped in the past. Instead, go with the flow and you'll have a great new life in no time.

  5. This is natural feeling starting new school away from what you were comfortable with at high school.  Stay focused on your classes and as home-works, exams, and projects start coming up, start conversation with other students and may be start a study group or exchange phone numbers to discuss problems.  This opens the opportunities to further outside activities such as sport events, birthday parties, and hopefully that would lead to friendships.
