Just starting to tone my arms is 5kg too much weight to start with?

  1. If you are just beginning to get yourself into better physical condition, then I recommend starting with a light weight, such as 5kg, and doing more repetitions per set. (ie. 20 reps and 3 sets); obviously, this depends on what sort of workout you are doing. To tone you're physique all around, be sure to work your arms in a variety of ways in order to give all the muscles in your arm a proper workout. Variety and balance in your workout is really the key... trust me, I've been a runner since the 2nd grade and I now compete in a Division 1 college and we rarely do the same workout in a week.

    P.S. Try looking around for a gym that offers a professional trainer in order to get more hands-on advice and to ensure you are lifting properly. (You don't want to be putting unwanted pressure on joints and such)
