Just stopped trying?

so dh just decided that after 8 months he now wants to stop trying for a while cus hes not ready who knows how long that will take... :( but im thinking about going back on birth control pills until he decides hes ready especially cus my cycles have really started to get wierd but is it not so effective in the first few months of going on the pill i dont remember its been a long time since i've been on the pill like in the first couple of months will there still be a small chance of me getting preg or not. should we use back up?

you should use protection the first month you are on the pills to make sure they are fully in your system (that is what my doctor told me when i started the pills).
