I have just moved from Pipex to Supanet. I have been told by Supanet that my account with them will be activated on the 10th and July and Pipex have confirmed that I am still connected with them. However, when I first set up my Supanet account and used the MAC code, I was instructuded to download a dial-up connection. Now I don't know if I'm using my Pipex connection or being charged on this pay-as-you-go dial up connection with Supanet... Any ideas? I connect to the internet via a wirless router so when I look at my settings it only tells me that I am connected to the router, not the provider. If I was on a dial up connection would I still be able to use my landline phone?

  1. If running XP go to start button, select Run option, type in CMD and open up the window.  Type in ipconfig /all and check the connections for a valid IP address (0.0.0.0 or 127.0.0.1 do not count) Once you find the connection with a valid IP address you should be able to identify whether it is associated with your ethernet (wired) port or to your 802.11a/b/g/n (wireless) port or to your modem.  This is your best sanity check to verify which way you are connecting to the internet.

If you are using a dial up connection then your landline should be busy.
