Question:

Just switched to vegetarian diet and I'm real antsy...?

Due to some digestive system issues, I have stopped eating meat, dairy, and sugar. I have also stopped drinking.

Its the 4th day and I feel much, much better than I did the first day; however, I cannot sit still for the life of me and I've been smoking 3 packs of cigarettes a day!! (Yeah, yeah I know...I need to quit them too haha)

Is this type of behavior normal at first?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks!

Tim

I know that I probably should have posted this in diet and fitness but I think I would get more accurate responses in this forum.

  1. You are fine. Your body has extra energy because it's not putting so much work into digesting meat, sugar and dairy, which are much more difficult to pass.  I went raw recently and the same thing happened to me.  Bouncing off the walls.  It's because the enzymes in my food hadn't been cooked away so my body didn't need to work at all to digest them.  So I had so much extra energy and I felt great.  Unfortunately that kind of diet is so expensive and time consuming I'm back to cooking my veggies. Go for a walk or something--it's still summer, get outside!

  2. I'd suggest calling your doctor on this one. Your doctor will want to test you for alcohol withdrawal syndrome. and possibly prescribe meds to help you with this. Have you replaced drinking alcohol with coffee? The added caffeine could also be a problem.

  3. if your quitting two habits one of them has to be stronger! so yeah it's normal for you to be excessivly smoking.

try playing a game that involves you keeping yourself occupied, like: playing cards or chess.

food wise, you could chew gum, drink more water or look up on some recipies :)

ahhh. you should research into vegetarianism and find foods and recipies you can have. i love finding new ways to cook food :)

  4. Although I never experienced that myself, I have a friend who has.  It eventually went away.  It might have something to do with your body getting rid of toxins.  Just be patient and good luck to you.

  5. It's not unusual, but I'd say it's quitting the booze that is causing it.
