I seen my doc last week and he advised me to have an hsg to see if my tubes were blocked. i had no idea what that was or if it hurt!! he explained to me that he would inject my uterus with a oil based dye and see if the dye went all the way through! needless to say i was scared as h**l!! i love this web site so i went on here and asked a few womens experiences about the proceedure, everyone i talked to said it hurt like h**l!! some people said they couldnt walk they were throwing up, bad bad cramps, heavy bleeding and so on!! it scared the h**l outta me!! this other woman said that the proceedure was painless and she went back to her normal life as soon as it was over! so in total there was about 9 woman that said it killed them and 1 woman that said it was nothing!! of course i believed the 9 woman over 1!! just to let u people know who are getting an hsg done soon..... IT WAS NOTHING!!! i was so scared on that table that i almost threw up!! i was asking so many questions and shaking the whole time!! it was over before i even knew it had started!! the most uncomfortable part was the spectalum but that didnt even hurt!! i watched as the dye was injected and had no pain at all!! my first guess was that those 9 women had it bad or even had other problems but when i wrote them when i got home they said they were just trying to scare me!! so juvanile!! so my words are if u r getting one soon just relax!! it only lasts a few mins!! and when u r done youll have a good piece of mind and know that its just 1 more step towards having your baby!! good luck everyone and i send u lots of baby dust!! ** BY THE WAY, BOTH MY TUBES WERE CLEAR!! THE DYE CLEANED THEM OUT SO I HOPE I GET A BFP THIS MONTH!! WISH ME LUCK!!***

  1. thanks whew!! i have to get one done in 2 weeks and was so scared to get it done.. now i'm not so nervous..

  2. Wow!  Thanks for posting this!  My doc suggested an hsg to make sure my tubes are clear and I wasn't sure if I wanted to get it done or not.  Thanks for helping ease my mind anyway, at least I know that it's not as painful as those other chics said.  Gosh and how immature for them to try and scare someone like that!  What jerks!!!

    So thanks!!  :)

  3. Many thanks for your info. I've heard both sides of this; some women who said it was fine and they simply took an Ibuprofen before their HSG and other women who said it was terribly painful. Probably depends if you get nervous and 'clamp up' or not!

I'm so glad your tubes had a nice 'spring clean'. Good luck!!!

  4. I had an SHG (kind of like an HSG only they use saline instead of dye)done a week and a half ago.  I was trying to research a lot too of what others who had either an shg or an hsg done and a lot said it hurt.  I took a strong ibuprofen 2 hours before my procedure and, not to sugar coat it, it hurt like some strong menstral cramps! My uterus contracted SOOO much! My doctor even said that I was the first person she had ever had that had their uterus contract that much during the procedure, as she could see it on the ultrasound machine! lol!  It was really quick though and definitly nothing that dramatic!  I'm hoping for my bfp soon too! I get to start clomid soon! YAY! I'm wishing for lots and lots of baby dust to be blown your way!! GOOD LUCK!!!  :o)

  5. I also thought at fist it was going to hurt like h**l too! But it did not! It was much better then some of my AF have been! I did take Advil before. They did find blockages in both tubes. So that does not matter! I think some people are much less tolerable then other for pain! STICKY BABY DUST YOUR WAY!!!!!

  6. good luck

  7. Just to clarify . . . it is definitely recommended that you take ibuprofen about 30 minutes before and do all that you can to relax during the procedure.  If you are tense, it will be more uncomfortable.

As to pain - if there is no blockage (as you experienced and as I experienced, too) then it is fine, no big deal, you can drive afterwards etc . . .  it is no fun but not all that bad either.

If you have blockage or a lot of scar tissue and it is difficult to push the dye through then the experience can be pretty painful.

Glad to hear that it went well and hope that you get pregnant soon!
