  1. You should have read that orange book, done all or most of the multiple choice questions at the end. The test is just 30 of those exact questions, so if you want to get a good score, study them & know the answers!! my brothers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed and they both got perfect. So don't stress--you can always retake it.

  2. Well I live in California, and I'm not sure about other states, but I know that you're ready to take the learner's permit test after you take Driver's Education classes and sign up for the Behind-the-Wheel Driver's Training Classes.

If you pass the Driver's Ed classes then you should be all set to get your permit. It's a written test and it's not difficult.

Just remember to take a deep breath and don't stress.  The test is easy and you don't need to do more than go over the things you learned once. Any more preparation than that and I think you're over-preparing (in California, at least).

  3. It's very easy, so you really don't need to study extensively. There's 20 questions on the New York exam, and you pass with a 14/20, or 70%. Half of the questions deal with the dangers and drugs and alcohol, and how to avoid danger on the road. You really don't need to know how to drive as much as you need to know how not to drive. If you want to study, just go to your states DMV website and look for the permit exam practice page. Just skim through each topic and take the practice tests and you'll pass with ease.

  4. In California it's mostly the stuff that's in the back of the booklet. You don't have to study much. Just know what all the roadsigns mean and stuff like that.

  5. Well, your grades don't really say much about your readiness for taking the permit's test. The education 'system' says that I'm academically gifted, but I barely passed the permit test with an 80% (after quickly cramming) whereas my best friend (who isn't as overboard about academics as I am and didn't study) got a 90% and this kid there who was even less intelligent seeming got an 100%. However, they were different versions of the test with different questions, so it's not really fair to compare scores.

I would say, just read over the driver's manual for your state (you should be able to find it at the DMV or online) and take the practice tests online. The test is somewhat common sense.
