Just what could the US do to stop Russia?

Already stuck in to wars as it is with out enough troops to fight ,both how could we step in to do something to stop Russia?

1) Tell NATO to get some b*lls for a change.

2) Allow the Ukraine into NATO since they are 50Million strong whereas Russia has 150Million people.

3) Convince the EU to freeze Russian assets in their banks such as Credit Suisse, Deutche Bank, UBS...etc.....as the Russians don't even keep their own money in their own banks do to bad credit ratings and risk.

4) Pull the trigger on Iran once and for all and take their energy assets. Not only would this give us more oil and natural gas, but if Russia cuts off parts of the Ukraine, France, GB and Germany from their energy supplied by Gazprom, then we can give these countries a percentage of this energy from Iran in order to offset the gas and oil which Russian Gazprom would cut off to these countries, thus allowing these countries not to be blackmailed into staying out of a conflict with Russia.

How about raising taxes to raise a trillion dollars to finance a new war?. Or borrow money again from China instead of raising taxes?. Then institute the mandatory draft to have more soldiers?.

We need to stay out of it. We stick our noses where they dont belong enough as it is. We should concentrate on OUR PROBLEMS for once.

The US could do a lot just so long as the conflict didn't escalate into the nuclear realm. Today, effective military intervention doesn't always require boots on the ground. Very few US ground troops were needed to wipe out the Taliban. All it took were a few combat air controllers with laser designators.

In Iraq and Afghanistan, the wars are technically over. The US is currently engaged in anti-insurgency operations. That type of military evolution does require a lot of boots on the ground.

Stopping a ground invasion would only require some Tomahawks, Predators, a few FACS, a wing of stealth bombers and a squadron of stealth fighters. Most of those assets are not currently needed in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Russia is responding to an attack on their citizens. If the US tries to fight for Georgia, there will be a third world war. America needs to stay out of it. This is no different than some little country like Cuba attacking America and America decides to just take over Cuba for their stupidity.

Russia isnt Iraq or Afghanistan. You will need boots on the ground against these guys, unless you want to see alot of pilots shot down and taken captive. Russia has significant air defenses.

We can't do much.

-An embargo won't work. Russia produces a lot of oil. We can't afford to lose it. It would probably be more damaging to the US than it would be to Russia.

-We can't go to war. We need Russia to talk down North Korea and Iran. And who would win a war between the US and Russia is debatable. You don't go to war with people you aren't sure you can beat unless you have no choice.

-We can't do anything within the UN because Russia has veto power.

The only thing we can do is protect the people and the government of Georgia indirectly.

Bush has sent humanitarian aid in the form of military troops (with supplies) to Georgia. They will head to the cities. The Russians don't dare fire on US troops. They will irreparably damage their relationship with the rest of the world.

Bush has also sent Rice to Tbilisi, the capital. The Russians want the president of Georgia gone. But they can't bomb Tbilisi in an effort to kill him with Rice there. If they accidentally kill Rice, they will start World War III.

1.Put more troops into Eastern Europe close to Russia's border.

2. Send the Navy into the Baltic and into the Black Seat in order to guarantee free navigation of International Waters

3. Guarantee the independence of Georgia, the Ukraine, and every other sovereign nation that borders Russia

4. Start harassing Russian air defenses by having fighters and bombers fly close to their border in order to force them to scramble fighters and set off their air defense systems.

These are all things we did during the Cold War.

This is where we really need to pull International help together. Russia is pissed because they don't feel like they are getting the respect they used to get. Maybe an embargo would help. we do it to everyone else. THhis would really be-little the Russians which is something they are trying to avoid.
