Just what is the montauk monster?

Hello. I was just in yahoo and I saw this headline about the Montauk monster. What is it? Is it some sort of alien creature? Could it be a turtle without a shell? If you observe carefully though, this creature has big sharp teeth, while turtles don't. Just what the heck is the montauk monster? Btw I'd appreciate if someone could comment on the name.

People are saying it's a racoon !!!  It looks like a sea turtle without the shell.  I can't explain the teeth though. Definetlly not a racoon

I'm from where the "Montauk Monster" was found and I heard that it supposably is a sea turtle without it's shell, Marine Patrol buried it and none of this was supposed to get out...

The name is because it washed up on shore in Montauk..
