Just wonder how such engines like wikipedia or yahoo!answer make money or gain benefits from their service?

because all their services are free-provided online. Therefore what is the incentives that motivate the administrator or people who in charge of this service to keep running this service? Please give some advices......

  1. probably advertising space and the amount of traffic attracts more ads and thus more money


  2. they have people that buy advertising space.

    so they make money from it.  


  3. Wiki seems to be non-profit and using the $1.5 million from donations to do such things as op expenses and to update servers.

    Yahoo on the other hand does profit by its adverts which doesn't seem like much on individual costs for one advertisement link, until you see the volume of users that use the service.

  4. Wikipedia depends on donations and grants. Yahoo!Answers has advertising on it and other Yahoo! pages

  5. they make money thougrh advertisements , adverts pay sites to show their ad , or bout£ 30 week , and lets say on ramdom  , 10,000 peaple view the site a day thats 10,000 x 30 a day and its a lot of money!!!!
