  1. From personal experience here:  a radioisotope saved me from having to have my thyroid gland surgically removed.  Not a really dreadful operation; but the downside is that this could affect a person's ability to speak.  I think isotopes are fine if they are closely controlled and only handled by persons who know exactly what they are doing and the potential danger involved.
