Justin Duchscherer looks fit and ready to play baseball
Although you may think the free agency lacks good players, but there are many players, who are looking to make the bid for prospective clubs in the region, as the spring training nears. The training period for the regular league
begins on 31 March. There are few pitchers and one of the leading members of the remaining players is Justin Duchscherer.
The 33-year-old pitcher has the credentials to take up a position in any major league team, but his health and mentality are a major doubt for the management in the clubs to take him on. Duchscherer had been suffering from depression,
plaguing his future prospects. Nevertheless, he has come out and declared that his problems are not on the horizon anymore.
The player is fit and ready to throw some good balls now. He is set to provide the Baltimore Orioles an exhibition of his throwing capabilities on Friday and many will be hoping he will not be a major disappointment following his
dismal performance with the Oakland Athletics, last year. He was only able to play 5 starting games before heading for a hip surgery in 2010.
"Honestly, I feel like I've proven (that) when I'm healthy I'm a very good Major League pitcher," he said. "The only thing I have to prove is (whether) I can do it over the long term. My first two years in the big leagues as a
reliever (with Oakland), I think I threw the second-most innings. I just want to get back to that - where I'm healthy and I'm feeling like that."
The player has been making a bid for New York as his family is living nearby. Whatever the case may be, Justin is looking for a starter’s role in any club and that is not up for any reconsideration.
"I just don't feel like, with the injuries I've had, think that would be beneficial for my career to be (a reliever)," said Duchscherer. For me it's black and white. I want to start; that's the whole mind-set I have. I haven't
even thought of being a reliever. I want a team that's going to be honest with me and say, 'If you're healthy, you are going to start.' "
