Justin James captures Men’s 200m freestyle title - Australian World Championship Time Trials
In an exciting event at the Australian World Championship Time Trials, Justin James of Mackay edged out Kirk Palmer of Barker Aquatic, in the Men’s 200m freestyle at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide, on June 30, 2011.
James completed his distance in 1 minute and 52.47 seconds, while Palmer wound up second in a time of 1 minute and 52.66 seconds.
While speaking on his performance in the Men’s 200m freestyle, James claimed that it was an impressive meet for him and he gave his best try to win the match. He now looks very determined to train hard for the upcoming major competitions. Like other swimmers,
Justin James’ ultimate goal is to win an Olympic gold title.
He won the golden crown in the Men’s 200m freestyle event at the 2009 Australian Youth Olympics Festival. In addition, he took home two gold medals in the Men’s 100m and 200m freestyle events at the National Age Championships in 2009.
In another meet, Ellen Fullerton of Queensland grabbed the Women’s 200m freestyle meet with a winning time of 2 minutes and 00.42 seconds, while Mikkayla Sheridan of Chandler earned second place honours with a time of 2 minutes and 01.77 seconds. Brittany
Elmslie of Brothers wound up third in a time of 2 minutes and 01.92 seconds.
Swimming Australia head coach, Leigh Nugent said, “It’s been an interesting couple of sessions really. Last night in the 100m freestyle events there was some pretty sharp swimming and to see Marieke Guehrer go 54.2 seconds was a good performance. With Kyle
Richardson going under the time as well, we’ll now be considering those two swimmers for the team for Shanghai.”
The Australian World Championship Time Trials is an excellent opportunity for teenager swimmers, as it provides them with a chance to book their places for the Shanghai World Championships, this July.
The Australian coach was confident and claimed that his side has young guns, which will perform well at the upcoming World Championships in China, next month.
