Having lost their ticket for the tournament’s semi-finals, Cape Cobras' Skipper, Justin Kemp, slammed his team’s bowlers for not putting up an imposing show against Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) on Tuesday's final over thriller at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk,
in Chennai.
“It’s disappointing, but to be fair we haven’t bowled well at all, really,” admitted Kemp.
“We’ve made crucial mistakes which you can’t make at this level and unfortunately it caught up with us tonight. You can’t be bowling three, four no-balls in one over, (which means) you’re struggling. You’re chasing a relatively low score, if you bowl a few
wides http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472oo, it doesn’t make it any easier,” added the disappointed Skipper.
Opting to bat first, the Cape Town outfit managed to pile up an adequate total of 137 runs for 4 wickets. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134 top-scored the team’s line-up with a magnificent 63 off 50 balls.
With T&T taking on the chase, the match remained in Cobras' favour after the side managed to mark some early wickets till the close of the inning's first half.
However, just when the side had thought of securing a place in the semi’s, all hopes faded away as the Caribbean squad’s middle-order took charge of the chase, and despite losing wickets in the process, led the team through ups and downs till the final over
- finally securing a worthy 2-wicket win.
The Cobras' skipper conceded to the fact that the match slipped out of his side's hands when their bowlers took a beating from the middle and lower order of the Trinidad outfit.
However, Kemp also lauded some of his bowlers, including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409, for delivering an exceptional opening spell; however, Steyn gave away 15 runs in the 19th over of the match.
Having lost Tuesday’s bout, the Cape Cobras have been eliminated from the League's semi-final race; however, the winning side, Trinidad & Tobago, could not make the semi's either.
