Australia’s batting coach Justin Langer has backed all-rounder Glenn Maxwell to move upwards in the Australian cricketing hierarchy, claiming the right-hander has the technique to carve out a spot for himself in the Test team.
“... fundamentally he's got a very, very good technique. He plays with a straight bat, he's got very fast hands and he's quite a student of the game,” observed Langer. “He's going to be a good player. I love his attitude. I hope he gets six hundreds to really
push his name up (for Tests).”

The competent right-handed batsman, who also has the ability to double as a handy part-time off-spinner, was named in the squad on the strength of a successful stint with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 in the 2012 Friends Life t20, and superb domestic performances for Victoria.
Among his more prominent outings was the fastest ODI half-ton in Australia's domestic history (50 off 19 deliveries against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854), scored in February 2011.
The 23-year-old continued to impress with the transition to the Australian national side – he managed composed scores of 38, 28, and an unbeaten 56 during the 3-match ODI series, and subsequently earned a call-up for the World T20 2012 squad.
Despite his success in the shorter formats of the game – he has 124 runs from 4 ODIs, and 353 runs from 18 list A matches – Maxwell harbours aspirations of making it to the Test team. With a current record of 770 runs and one century from 11 first-class
matches, the 23-year-old has expressed the desire to add to his tally once he returns to Australia, in a bid to earn a call-up to the Test squad.
“I know a lot of people earmarked me as a Twenty20 and one-day player,” Maxwell said. “Once I get back to Australia and play some first-class cricket I'm hoping I can put some big scores on the board that people just can't refuse.”
