Justin Langer stays as Australia’s assistant coach
Justin Langer’s duties as Australia’s assistant coach have been extended for another year.
The announcement was made on Thursday, when Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 made the decision to appoint Craig McDermott as the team’s new bowling coach.
Langer was appointed as the assistant coach of Aussies Test team in November 2009, under the chief batting coach Tim Nielsen. Langer and McDermott have served Australia in 176 Tests. CA general manager, Michael Brown lauded Langer’s services saying that his presence is really valuable for the Australian cricketers.
"Justin's record as a player and then over the last 18 months, as coach, leader and mentor within the Australia team coaching group, speaks for itself and we are all delighted he has agreed to continue his outstanding work with the Australia team," Brown said.
The reappointed Langer, also showed his excitement over becoming an integral part of Australian cricket once again. He added that he was desperate to continue his duty so that he could take the next steps to develop himself as a coach, working with devoted and motivated group of people.
Besides Langer, Jamie Siddons, whose contract as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747’s coach has recently finished, last month revealed his wish to take over as Australia’s assistant coach.
Langer and McDermott will have to face new challenges, as the last Ashes defeat has pushed Australia down to the fifth spot in Test cricket.
Not only this, Langer is also supposed to provide proper batting guidelines to the newly appointed captain, Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, who only managed 367 Test runs last year, at a poor average of 21.58.
Clarke proved himself a successful One-Day leader during the Bangladesh tour; however, he has a tough time ahead, with two Test tours of Sri Lankan and Australia.
Langer, in his cricketing career has played 105 Tests and has scored 7696 runs at an average of 45.27, including 23 centuries and 30 fifties.
Australia, have made all these changes in the wake of their Ashes as well as recent World Cup defeat.
Australia’s Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 will start on November 13 at Cape Town, Newlands.
