Justin Masterson allows career-high three homers to the Texas Rangers, talks about the game
Cleveland Indians’ starting pitcher, Justin Masterson, would usually go to the length of just giving up two home-runs in a whole month during the season. However that situation changed on Tuesday, September 13 when the Cleveland Indians lost 4-10 to the
Texas Rangers at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Masterson went on to concede three homers in the fixture and he was not surprised a great deal by what had happened.
The hurler allowed David Murphy to knock two homers off his deliveries in the contest, while Josh Hamilton went ahead of the pitcher to smash a two-run homer in the bottom fifth.
Masterson said, "I made some good pitches, you have to give some credit to them. They had a couple good balls. David Murphy looked like he was hot tonight. There were some times when I got in poor counts, but overall, I felt good out there."
Murphy accomplished an interesting feat against Masterson on Tuesday. He became the first player to smash two homers against the starter in a single season.
Hamilton would add one against the ball thrower later on. He smashed a 414-foot shot out of the ground to lead Elvis Andrus to the dugout for two runs. The 2010 American League Most Valuable Player had one advantage working for him as his left hand stance
created trouble for the hurler. Masterson had to direct his throws over the plate.
"I thought it caught more of the middle of the plate, but when I went back and looked at it, it was actually a decent pitch away," Masterson said. "It was 3-1, I'm sure he was out there looking fastball."
The hurler explained that he challenged Hamilton. The Rangers outfielder took the stakes and challenged Masterson back.
Masterson would later earn two more runs in the bottom sixth as Murphy and Napoli scored against Nick Hagadone on a Craig Gentry single. The player pitched five innings, conceding six runs off eight hits and three walks. His current earned runs average is
now 3.20.
