Justin Masterson excels as Cleveland Indians oust Minnesota Twins 6-2 – MLB Recap
Starting pitcher Justin Masterson pitched seven solid innings and earned a great 6-2 victory for the Cleveland Indians against the Minnesota Twins in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, August 8 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Indians’ starter showed his tremendous skills and remained calm on the mound for seven innings. He allowed only two runs and three hits along with two earned runs on his 4.68 ERA.
"I'm sure there was relief in all of Cleveland and every Cleveland fan in the country, We can win," Masterson said.
Along with Masterson, the Indians’ other two pitchers Vinnie Pestano and Esmil Rogers also played well for their team and never allowed too many loop-holes.
Pestano pitched one inning and remained clean with no hit and no run on his 1.26 ERA while closer Rogers was smashed with one hit on his consistent 2.76 ERA.
The level of performance by the Indians’ pitchers certainly was one of the winning factors in their great victory. They all played combined and as one unit.
They gave no chance to the Twins to take control of the game at any point of play. Not only pitchers, the Tribe’s hitters were also aggressive on the field as they scored consistently during the entire game.
Later in the game, Indians’ manager Manny Acta said for his team’s combined effort, "You start playing not to lose instead of playing to win, that's human nature. You feel helpless at times because you have very little control of a lot of things, I had never seen anything like this before and I hope I never see it (again). Our guys stayed pretty strong mentally the whole time."
On the other hand, the Twins played poorly. Especially pitchers disappointed them with their meagre outing in which they all gave six important runs.
Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire, "We've been there, There isn't any room for feeling sorry for anybody else because we all go through it.”
Minnesota's starter Brian Duensing allowed eleven hits with six runs. He also allowed four earned runs on his 4.46 ERA and certainly had a large part in the Twins loss.
