Justin Masterson shines as Cleveland Indians outclass Baltimore Orioles 3-1 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians edge past the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 in the fourth and final game of their four-game regular series encounter on Monday, July 23 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Starter Justin Masterson played well for the Indians and earned a great victory. He looked sharp on the mound and pitched with huge aggression. He tossed 7.1 innings and received only one run on seven hits. He received one earned run and struck-out six Orioles’ batters as his ERA remained consistent at 4.12.
“Whenever guys are kind of going down, hopefully you keep a team to nothing. You have to ease a little bit of the pressure off the offense. Say, 'Hey, just give me two, boys, and we'll try to get it done,” Masterson said after the game.
Later Indians' manager Manny Acta said of his starter’s terrific outing, “Masterson did a tremendous job, He did what we expect our No. 1 guy to do, to go out there and shut down the opposition. ... When he's good, sinking it down, it doesn't matter who you put out there. That's the last thing you want to do -- start a series with [Detroit] on a five-game losing streak,"
Not only Masterson, but the Indians entire pitching rotation played well and proved unplayable for the Orioles.
Relief pitcher Vinnie Pestano pitched 0.2 innings and received one hit on 1.54 ERA.
Later closer Chris Perez also did well in his one inning’s spell as he did not receive any hits or runs as his ERA also remained consistent at 2.97.
On the other hand, the Orioles, who were enjoying their five-game winning streak, certainly outplayed by the Indians in the last game of the series where they were never given any chance to bounce back in the game.
Orioles’ entire roster did not play well and lost in the end. Their pitchers along with their potential batters were outplayed by the Indians top offence which proved disastrous in their humiliating defeat.
Especially starter Tommy Hunter disappointed with his pitching as he received three runs on eight hits while he gave three earned runs on 5.57 ERA.
